Itinerary
Day 3
Day 3
Amman - Jerash - Ajloun - El Himma instructions local representative + pick up rental car
After breakfast our local representative will meet you in the lobby of your hotel to discuss the rest of your trip. You receive the keys from the rental car and from here the adventure begins.
The first stop is Jerash, “the Pompeii of the Middle East”, a city founded by Alexander the Great. It is one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Unfortunately Jerash is not listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, because wrong methods were used to restore the city. Nevertheless, Jerash is one of the biggest surprises of Jordan. Located in the middle of a contemporary city, you can imagine yourself back in Roman times. A must see in Jordan.
The second stop is Ajloun. The Ajloun Castle protected the communication routes between south Jordan and Syria, and was one of a chain of forts that lit beacons at night to pass signals from the Euphrates as far as Cairo. Today, Ajloun Castle is an amazing sight with a fascinating labyrinth of towers, chambers, galleries and staircases to explore. This fortress is on top of a hill which gives you a stunning view of the Jordan Valley.
If you have not had enough you can travel towards Pella. Archaeological finds from the Bronze and Iron Ages indicate that Pella was a prosperous city known for trading merchandise with Egypt, Syria and Cyprus.
Continue your journey north to El Himma, a hidden treasure which is still unknown to many people. You will visit the natural hot springs and spend the night in our private accommodation, El Himma Chalets. The private accommodation is located near the hot springs of El Himma. A private dinner will be prepared by the local owner.

This place is well known because from here, Moses looked out over the Promised Land.

Your journey continues south via the famous Kings Highway also known as the King’s Road. This old trade route is still an important connecting road in Jordan. This highway brings you to the crusader castle of Kerak.

The guide will tell you all about the different plant- and animal species living in the region. Around noon he will cook a traditional Bedouin lunch in the Nature Reserve.
When you finished the hike, you will continue to Petra and check in at your accommodation. You can also choose to visit Little Petra in advance. Archaeologists believe Little Petra used to be a trading suburb and agricultural center. This is the place where visitors of Petra would resupply. Also, a couple of the oldest settlements in the world find their home here. Visiting Little Petra gives you a taste of tomorrow, when you will visit Petra. Our advise: start your visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds and heat in the afternoon.
